From Top to Bottom

"There was a time."

It is kind of stunning how terrible it is
as I read the news
from top to bottom.

Maybe I should read it from bottom to top?

Where does the good news hide?
Or has it gone by the way of the dinosaurs
or the bees
and the frogs
and now they say the snakes.

We are watching the canaries go one after another.
Are we paying attention?

It seems reality is giving us a 'Kansas City Shuffle".
There was a time.
