Fancy figgerin'

I've been doing some computing of sorts on how I can get more out of my stay here in Korea.
It is simply more difficult being on an island, but not in all ways horrible.
I probably don't spend as much money because there are very few options here as far as restaurants go,
and with no other foreigners, I don't get asked to group dinners very often.

I wish I could eat at the school for dinner more often, but I am usually working out at that time.  I suppose I could begin working out in the mornings, but I really find it hard to be inspired at that hour.  Ultimately it would likely be better for me as my metabolism would likely burn more throughout the day and then I could eat the school dinner every night, which is free.  That would save me some money right there.

Then as far as getting out and seeing some more of the countryside, I think if I can get one nice little 3 day type trip a month, I should be lucky.  The difficulty is in the extra day.  Perhaps if I can just leave a little early on Fridays.  If I have to wait until after school, then about as far as I can get is Daejeon on Friday night before I would have to get a place to crash.  That's the drawback to being on the islands.  It's *so much more isolated.  It adds an extra 2 hours to *any trip considerations.  But I am going to have to do something...because I feel time wasting away, and I hate that.  Must.  Start.  Planning.  Now.

I just know that as much as I like the island as I am adjusting to it now, as much as I love my students when I bump into them out on the roads or on the school grounds outside of class, and inside of class, there is just so much more of Korea for me to go and explore.  While I won't be able to see it all, I can certainly get out and see more.  I miss it.

Driving to Jinju with on of my friends and his girlfriend, and then riding back on the bus, just made me sad, because the areas of Korea I was seeing was like the Korea that made me want to return.  Much of this island, simply is not.  I love it, but it's like Korea Lite.

I need to see more.  I am heading for Suncheon on Saturday morning with much of the school due to a teacher getting married.  I don't know her, but they seem to expect me to go...and probably pay.  But I just want to go explore.  Oh well.  It will be good to leave the island.
