Ground Hog Day

Yesterday, for the second time in two weeks, my school wanted me to go to a school dinner.  Normally I would be just fine with that.  Last week I couldn't because I went to a school dinner with one of my other schools.  Yesterday I couldn't because of lesson plans.

With 5 new textbooks and so many different grades I seem to do nothing but lesson planning.  For my middle school classes on Friday, I found out on Wednesday night what 3 specific lessons my co-teacher wanted me to teach.

One was pretty easy because it was on the present continuous tense, "He is fishing." etc.  The students were great and seemed to rock it today.  The third grade middle school I thankfully didn't have to teach because the subject matter was horrific.  Basically I would have had to have taught 45 minutes about the phrases, "Really?" and "You're kidding." and "You mean...", the premise being people tell you things that might amaze such as, "My grandmother is 100 years old."

So the students would say, "My grandmother is 100 years old." and they might have to say, "You mean she won't live much longer?"  It's a horrific little piece of English that they want taught that doesn't to me seem to have much practicality to it, but what the hell do I know.

Anyway, back to dinner.  Both of the last two times my school wanted me to go to dinner, they were going to Yu Land restaurant.  This is the place that just about a month ago I had my wallet stole from right behind me as I sat on the floor.

Being that there were only 30 or so teachers there, I am left to suspect it was one of them or if not them, then the waitstaff.  So I guess I could go to dinner and not bring my wallet, but it's a couple miles away, and if I get stuck on that side of the island at night (taxis basically don't run after 7 o'clock here), then I am walking.  I don't mind that either, but it's been nothing but cold and windy and my heart's not in it.  When the issue first came up after my wallet was stolen, my co-teacher said, "None of us would have stolen it, we are teachers."  And that's fine, I'd like to believe that, but then if that's the case, why in the name of Christ would I want to go back to a restaurant whose waitstaff stole my wallet while they worked?

It saddens me because it is all just nothing like the experiences I had from 2009-2012.  Whatchya gonna do?
