Ride It Out

I swear I've been saying this since I arrived here.
Today was yet another one of those days where I wondered if they were (they being who, exactly?) trying to get me to fold up with so little time left.  There was a new computer in the English classroom.  They didn't just reboot / reconfigure things, they got a new machine.  The sound barely worked, so it was difficult before class to play something to get them in their seats and be ready, and just over all, it sucked.

But it's a nice new machine.  I think.

Today was the last time I get to see my middle school students in class.  Even though that's the case, I was instructed to do a "reading" lesson.  I haven't had to teach them "reading" all year.  Last week I was told the same, and we did a skimming and scanning lesson.  I thought it went well.  My teacher said it was too difficult.  Today was too difficult.

I tried to cover too much in too short a period of time.  Things we mixed up and the outcome wasn't so good.  Not exactly they way I wanted my middle school students to remember me.

After the first lesson (actually the first lesson was cancelled due to some meeting in the gym), I was told that the 3rd graders would rebel if we did the reading lesson, so do something fun.  So I had to do the reading lesson with the best group of kids, even though they tested all week, and got to have fun with the rowdiest group of kids.

You couldn't make this shit up.
