The Nail
This man and video hits the nail on the head for me. Basically all my life I have assumed that I would not be around forever. When I was younger, I would hear people say, "Oh, those teenagers (kids), they think they're going to live forever - so they do the damnedest things and take chances!" (etc.)
But it was completely the opposite for me. Perhaps it is the Keats, Shelley, or Coleridge in me, but I always wanted more, the greatness that came with being. Simply being...but doing, seeing, and experiencing as much as I could...in a sense leaving no stone un-turned.
Sometimes it worked, and I moved forward with that mindset, and occasionally, as he mentioned, like everyone else, I lost sight of that...but it was always there. And I guess I feel that part of the whole kinship I feel with what he expresses with his words is that I've not yet found anyone else that thought that way...except for maybe my oldest friend, Theotis Renaudornot.
When I look at the turmoil in the world around me now and look back at the hell that some people create in their little worlds, it becomes even more apparent they aren't paying attention to the real things, the now. And it's easy to do. My sisters taught me a lot about family when I went back to school and got my teaching license. They still teach me things to this day. As does my father...though I am often as obstinate in dealing with him as I was when I was 14. But I pay better attention...a little.
Get out there and live, people. There will always be bills to pay. But what is it that you need to do?
